Hey Big Spender

Urrrrrgh. I’m so frustrated.

Are you a saver or a spender?

Me? I’m a spender. And so is my husband. This pretty much makes for a disaster of a financial situation! While we don’t live beyond our means (anymore), we are certainly living to the very tip of them.

I find it hard to believe how little income we lived on for the first 16 months of my son’s life, before I went back to work. We very much fit in to the “the more you make the more you spend” concept.

I’m currently working on a list about a mile long of things I want. My dream Christmas wish-list!

New running shoes – Kayano 20 {source}

Shopping Spree – dresses, swimwear, shoes {source}

Summer style

My wardrobe needs a serious update. I am a hopeless shopper, always picking up bits and pieces that are on sale, but never having anything to go with them. Or they’re too dressy for every day wear, or too big or too small. But I also need new running shoes, as mine are worn out and the ones I bought to replace them are not the right kind of running shoe for my foot/stride. Who knew?

Why am I sharing this? For a couple of reasons. One, I need ideas on saving money! If you’re a saver, PLEASE share how you do it in the comments below? Two, I’m also doing it because some believe if you send things out into the universe, you get what you ask for. My jury is still out on that theory, because I know some people who have been dealt some pretty shit hands, and I know they did not ask for any of it. Three, there might just be someone out there who can help me or is willing to send me running shoes, or a new phone, or a Westfield gift card. Anyone? Can’t blame me for trying!

A to Zof Me: Part II

Continuing on from last week’s A to Z of Me: Part I, this week I bring you letters G through L. Let’s get started!

G is for Grateful. I’m grateful for my lot in life, every day. I know things could be so much worse, I know we are blessed to have steady jobs, good health, a happy and healthy son. We drive new cars, we have food in our fridge and pantry. We live in paradise! At the end of the day, what else could we ever possibly want?

H is for Humble. I don’t think I am better than anyone else. I don’t think I know everything, or have all the answers. I think humility is one of the most important characteristics a person can have.

I is for Interested. I do take an interest in a lot of different things. I find people, places, news, politics, religion, decision making, success and failure all interesting. As long as none of it is happening to me and I can just watch from the sidelines!

J is for Joker. Not as in practical jokes, more of a sarcastic/smartarse/wit type joker. If ever there was a peanut gallery, I would be the main member!

K is for Kind. For the most part I think I’m extremely kind. And compassionate (kompassionate?) I think you never know what a person’s story or struggles are, and it doesn’t cost anything to be kind.

L is for Likeable. I’m a “yes” person. As in I have a hard time saying no. Who doesn’t like a “yes” person!?

Have you done an “A-Z of Me”? Post a link in the comments! I’d love to read!

A-Z Of Me: Part I

I’ve seen a few bloggers doing an “A to Z of Me” and I decided (3 months ago but I’m just getting around to it) today that I would jump on the bandwagon with them. Mostly because I thought, “There’s no way I could think of 26 words to describe me!” Challenge accepted, self! To keep it short and maybe a bit more attention grabbing, I’ll do 6 letters a week and post every Tuesday in September. Right, let’s get started!

A is for Aroha. Because that is my name! Cop out? Ok fine, A is for Active, something I’ve tried to be over the past 12 months. From personal training, to tennis, to running, I’ve tried to be as active and as fit as possible. It’s a far cry from where I was the first 4 years of my son’s life, which was lazy, overweight and unmotivated!

B is for Balanced. I finally feel like I have somewhat of a balance between working, being a mum, being a wife, and looking after myself. There are only so many hours in the week. Sometimes you just have to say “no” and prioritize.

C is for Caring. It took me a while to come up with this one. Calm? Not really. Centered? Hmmm, nope! Creative? Definitely NOT! But I do care. A lot. I like to think I am compassionate (ooh another C!), thoughtful, and caring to not just those closest to me, but everyone I meet.

D is for Delightful. I ummed and ahhhed about this one, because honestly, I’m not sure how “delightful” I am, but I think overall I am a pretty pleasant person to be around, and I try to make people smile and laugh. I thought about determined, but I think that’s a bit of a stretch. The only thing I’m ever truly determined to do is crawl in bed and go to sleep.

E is for Envious. In the interest of keeping this list real, I am often envious. I don’t think being envious is a negative thing. I think there’s a difference between envious and flat out jealous. I can be envious of people while still being happy for them, and not wishing them ill will. I think that’s the difference?? Sounded better in my head, anyway!

F has to be for Fantastic. Doesn’t it? Or Fabulous? I was going to say “funny” but I’m really more sarcastic, which not everyone thinks is funny, so I’ll save that for the S’s. As you do!

There you have it, the first installment. I might make up a poster of all these words when I’m done. If not to remind myself how wonderful I am, then to at least remind my husband and son, lest they forget. Have you done an “A-Z of Me”? Post a link in the comments! I’d love to read!
